I appreciate your ratings of doctors. There are no naturalpaths or homeopaths listed, however. In this day and age when many of us are looking beyond western trained doctors, their exclusion is starling. K Juniper

KAJ-the reason homeopaths and natural paths aren't listed is because this is a List of Best Doctors- As treatment proven to be effective by the scientific method. It is not San Diego Magazine's 2011 "List of Best hucksters and snake oil peddlers." The term "beyond Western trained" is that realm of quackery combining pseudo-science, spiritualism, and with Medieval superstition. It's even sillier term when you consider that as Asian nations develop, they increasingly turn to 'western medicine' as their income and education increases. Next time you go into full cardiac arrest or chop a finger off in the kitchen, try calling your homeopath for an effective treatment. In this day and age anyone looking beyond Western trained doctors is a fool. At best it's a placebo effect.

What happened to ENT? Did I miss it? Dr. Bone is an excellent ENT doctor.
Many western doctors are now offer alternative treatments. Physical therapy, referrals for massage, electrical stimulation machines, infrared heat therapy. I've had doctors agree that my inversion table can help decompress my spine if I find it works for me.
What can be more safe than trying non-invasive therapies first and more invasive medicinal second?
I'd love if SD Mag could take a walk on the wild side and really investigate other categories and alternative health with an open mind. How about TMJ doctors, Active Release Therapy, sex therapy, bio-identical hormone therapy, chiropractic, naturalpaths or western docs with natural leanings, etc.
One last note, I have been to some of the providers on this list, some are excellent!! And some are too busy to be excellent. With one, I had back surgery without any discussion of conservative options. After surgery, I met a man in his office that had many spinal surgery's that added metal to his spine. He said be wary of more spine surgery, because he got worse with each additional fix from the expert. Sounded a bit like the financial industry telling us to trust the experts.
I'd love to see SD Mag do a follow up to this list and find how many patients agree with the doctors chosen for the list, in ADDITION to a full investigation of alternative health.
Thanks to SD Mag for at least starting the discussion! best L James
